V To Shining V 2016 was a Kick Ass Awards show!!!
In 2014, we started V To Shining V, a super fun event that brought people together with their friends all across the U.S. to throw parties and plot ways to toss out politicians trying to destroy reproductive rights. In our second year, we doubled the number of cities with parties! With the election year of 2016, we decided to go big and throw a full on awards show. What better way to highlight just how many politicians are declaring war on reproductive rights, we thought, than having an awards show to “celebrate” them during election season? It’s the most fabulous call to action evah!
The 1st Annual Golden Probe Awards, a satirical and oh so glamorous awards show “honoring” outstanding achievement in sexism and anti-choice extremism streamed live from (le) Poisson Rouge in New York City on Sunday, October 2, 2016. Putting the LPJ spin on all of our favorite awards season tropes, the Golden Probes featured musical performances, dance numbers, outfit changes, and so many of our favorite comedians and pro-choice heroes putting the BIGGEST SEXIST ASSHOLES on blast! Check out all of the nominees and winners from 2016 here.
With more than 22,000 people watching across the country, the Probes had no fewer than 80 watch parties happening in 30 states from Alaska to New Jersey! With downloadable DIGITAL PARTY KITS featuring miniature red carpets, Eunice P. Justice paper dolls, Probes Bingo, and cocktail recipes like Old Fashioned But Pro Choice & Consensual Sex on the Beach, people from all over the country partied right along with the livestream. See the best photos from across the country right here!
And awesome organizations like the Gateway Women’s Access Fund in St. Louis, Whole Women’s Health in Austin, Planned Parenthood Votes CO in Denver, and POWER House in Montgomery threw public watch parties with red carpets, drinks, and even awards of their own! In Memphis, the organizations Healthy & Free TN, CHOICES, and Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region had a Lady Parts Justice TACO FEST with bands, comedians, and tacos (duh). Public watch parties also happened in Minneapolis, Los Angeles, and Portland.
We can’t wait for an even bigger and badder Golden Probes next election cycle. See y’all on the red carpet!
